Jodi Maxfield

Jodi has been the Artistic Director of the Cougarettes since 1991 and an adjudicator, teacher, and choreographer for over 30 years. During the past 22 years, while at BYU, Jodi has led the Cougarettes to ten National titles, including six Grand Championships and 4 Most Innovative Choreography Awards and 2 Hip Hop Champions. Jodi and the Cougarettes can be found on the cover are featured in the March, 2013 issue of Dance Teacher magazine. Under Jodi’s direction, the team has appeared in Dance Spirit Magazine as one of the top 25 collegiate dance teams, as well as gracing the cover of Dance Spirit magazine’s Dance Directors Guide twice.

Jodi is BYU Athletics Spirit Coordinator, working with the Cheer Squads and Cosmo, as well as the Cougarettes. Jodi is also the advisor of curriculum and staff for Precision Dance Camps. She was named as one of the nation’s outstanding directors in 2003 and 2004. She is married to John Scott Maxfield, has three children and is a new Grandma to three darling grandchildren, Baines, Evan and Bixby.

The BYU Cougarettes
The Cougarettes are the 2012 reining College Dance Team National Hip Hop Champions and winners of Best Choreography Named as one of the best 25 Dance teams in the Country, the BYU Cougarettes have established themselves as a perennial powerhouse in the Collegiate Dance Team World. The Cougarettes are part of BYU Athletics and are excited to be representative of the excellence that is indicative of the outstanding student athletes at Brigham Young University. The Cougarettes have been a viable part of BYU Athletics and Dance at BYU since 1946. The Cougarettes can be seen providing entertainment and cheering on our men’s football and basketball teams and at various other athletic events. The Cougarette Dance Team has garnered 10 National Dance Team titles over the past 15 years. They were also National Champions in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2010 and 2011. They also have 7 top 5 finishes since their first appearance at College Nationals in 1996. The mission and aim of the Cougarette Dance Team is to provide a wholesome environment for dedicated dancers to grow and develop as artists and athletes as well as to maintain the spiritual focus and atmosphere of Brigham Young University and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Cougarettes take very seriously the opportunity they have been given to serve as role models in their genre of dance and for opportunities they have to serve in the community.
